Here are the top 10 “CAF” things to see at EAA AirVenture in 2019. It’s going to be another great year at EAA AirVenture. We hope to see many of you there. Of course if you can’t make it, you can follow along at our Facebook page.
The return of B-24 Diamond Lil. After over a year of repair work kept this busy warbird grounded. She is back and will be on display at AirVenture a few days during the show. The B-24 is currently on tour with the CAF AirPower History Tour and will be in the mid-west for the next few weeks. Check out the AirPower History Tour Here.
Naval aviation enthusiasts will be happy to see the CAF Dixie Wing’s Corsair at the show. This Corsair comes with its own fan club. If you can’t make it to Oshkosh this year, you can also catch the Corsair at CAF Wings Over Dallas October 25-17. Get your Wings Over Dallas Tickets Here.
Warbirds in Review is an amazing program. Pairing aircraft with those who built flew and maintained them. This year’s program offers several exciting topics. One to be sure to catch is Tuskegee Airmen Charles McGee with a P-51 Mustang on Saturday afternoon. See the Schedule Here.
Introducing Ike’s Bird. This aircraft was recently purchased and added to the CAF Ghost Squadron. This aircraft was once the Smallest Air Force One and used during the Eisenhower Administration. The Ike’s Bird Sponsor Group will use the aircraft to transport veterans in style and comfort to aviation events across the country. Learn more Here.
Take a stroll to KidVenture and be sure to visit the CAF Red Tail RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit. Each day Tuskegee Airmen will be there giving autographs and answering questions. Get more information here.
If you don’t own a Devil Dog T-shirt, you will have your chance if you head down to warbird Alley and visit the PBJ Devil Dog. This aircraft always attracts a crowd, with it’s brilliant blue livery, you can’t miss it! Check out the History of the PBJ Devil Dog Here.
World War II ace Clarence "Bud" Anderson, a National Aviation Hall of Fame member who was a triple ace during World War II, will be saluted during warbirds activities at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019. EAA has invited all flying P-51 aircraft to Oshkosh for the event, particularly for a salute to Anderson during the Thursday, July 25, afternoon airshow. Learn More Here.
CAF Members will be all over the grounds. You can be sure to spot CAF members in the Navy Blue uniform shirt or CAF Flight Suit. You can ask any one of them about CAF membership. CAF members at Oshkosh are invited to the CAF member event on Friday. Email twright@cafhq.org for more information.
Welcome Home C-47s. After the epic journey to Normandy and back, several C-47s as part of the D-Day Squadron will be at AirVenture. The two CAF aircraft, C-47 That’s All, Brother and C-53 D-Day Doll will be there and giving rides and tours. The C-47s are set to fly in formation on Friday and Saturday (Subject to change). The AirPower History Tour (B-29 FIFI, B-24 Diamond Lil, P-51 Gunfighter) and Dixie Wing’s P-51 Red Nose will be giving rides in Appleton, and Fond du lac, both about a 30 minute drive from Oshkosh.
