Project Launched to Preserve Atlanta Naval Aviation History
Atlanta, Georgia, May 21, 2020- The Inspire Aviation Foundation announced that they will be spearheading a project to preserve artifacts from NAS Atlanta. The Naval Air Station (NAS) Atlanta Reunion Group is composed of U.S. Navy veterans who served at NAS Atlanta from 1941 to 2009. Over time the group amassed a collection of photographs, newspapers clippings, and other artifacts including the architectural drawings for the construction of the original WWII-era Naval Air Station and base programs and directories. Inspire Aviation Foundation aims to digitize the entire collection to make it accessible and then will properly archive and store the originals to ensure this history is not lost.
This project is part of an overall objective of the foundation is to develop an historical ground tour of the Dekalb-Peachtree Airport. Material from this collection will be used in the future to produce an exhibit at the Atlanta Air and Space Museum dedicated to NAS Atlanta and modern day Dekalb-Peachtree Airport.
