Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Park Monument to Honor WWII Aviators, B-17 Texas Raiders, P-63 Kingcobra, and Their Crews
Conroe, TX (June 14, 2023) - On Wednesday, June 14, at their annual Flag Day ceremony, the Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Park Commission announced a new monument to pay tribute to World War II aviators and recognize B-17 Texas Raiders, the P-63 Kingcobra, and their crews. The memorial is designed and funded by the Montgomery County Park commission.
The commission was presented with a check from the Tony Gullo family of Montgomery County, underwriting the entire construction of the monument. Tony Gullo, Sr. is a long-time resident of Montgomery County and owns a series of auto dealerships. He lost his brother-in-law in a B-17 in Europe during World War II.
An array of Gulf Coast Wing crew was in attendance to thank the Gullo family for their most generous donation, which will permit the Texas Raiders monument to become a reality.
The professionally designed installation will be a dramatic tribute consisting of a scale replica of Texas Raiders between LED pylons, which will include educational content about the CAF, our crew, and World War II aviation. The monument will sit on the Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Park grounds, situated near the south end of The Line and residing under the World War II vintage U.S. Army Air Force flag.
The new installation will be unveiled at a public ceremony on Sunday, October 8, at 1 p.m. at the park at 1 Freedom Blvd., in Conroe.
