French Wing Seeks Support for NE-1 Restoration
Paris, (April 28, 2022)- The task of preserving and sharing these aircraft is a great honor and an immense responsibility. Support from friends like you make it possible to breathe new life into these iconic warbirds. This month the CAF is shining a light on an important restoration project taking place with the CAF’s French Wing, based outside of Paris.
Their Piper J-3 F-GHLQ was acquired in 2003 and has been an excellent aircraft for the Unit to bring to aviation events. It is due time for the aircraft to undergo a major restoration. The group plans to restore the aircraft to represent the NE-1 serial 26359, a J-3 Cub that was flown with the U.S. Navy.
For the initial restoration work this the airplane will be disassembled, stripped of the canvas, inspected, the parts that need to be changed will be, the fuselage, sandblasted, painted, then re-canvased and painted.
The Wing hopes to additionally restore the dashboard to a more authentic model, overhaul the propeller, and perform additional engine work, and procure a bevy of instruments. Learn more about this excellent project and see how you can help!
