Dallas Area Educational Program for Black History Month at CAF Headquarters
Dallas, Texas, January 14, 2019 - The CAF RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit will return to Dallas for a Black History Month program. This field trip provides students with an opportunity to learn about the Tuskegee Airmen, America’s first African-American Military Pilots, and how the Airmen overcame segregation and adversity to become some of America’s best pilots in World War II.
The exhibit features a unique large-format, curved screen theater which allows students to experience our “Rise Above” film in an interactive setting. The film covers the topic of civil rights and the uphill struggle for equality as it pertains to this important piece of history. It also gives viewers an exciting feeling of flying in a rebuilt P-51 Mustang.
Not only is the CAF RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit educational, but it is inspirational – recounting the story of a team of volunteers who struggled against their own challenges in an effort to honor the Tuskegee Airmen, by rebuilding – and flying – a P-51 Mustang, the iconic ride of the “Red Tails.” These volunteers explain how the lessons of the Airmen inspired them, and how they can help us all overcome adversity.
Students will participate in activities designed to emphasize the lessons of the Tuskegee Airmen, and to help young people create a path to success while articulating their life goals. Students will also be able to get “hands-on” history, handling artifacts from World War II.
Activities in the Hangar Each visit also includes activities designed at emphasizing the lessons of the Tuskegee Airmen. These activities are based on the CAF's Flight Plan For Life, goal-setting activities designed to help young people create a path to success while articulating their life goals. Students will also be able to visit the Discovery Cart station where they can get “hands-on” history, handling artifacts from World War II. In addition, several of the other aircraft types flown by the Tuskegee Airmen in training will be on display in the hangar.
