Acclaimed U.S. Navy and Commercial Aviator, Captain Tammie Jo Shults, to be a Part of the Victory Ball Celebration
October 20, 2023 (DALLAS) – Acclaimed naval aviator, commercial airline captain, author, and inspirational speaker, Captain Tammie Jo Shults, will be a part of the Commemorative Air Force’s (CAF) annual Victory Ball on April 20, 2024.
Overcoming various obstacles on her path to becoming a military pilot, Shults became one of the first female F/A-18 Hornet pilots in the U.S. Navy. Before women were allowed into combat roles, her duties included teaching Out Of Control Flight and serving as a bogey/bandit against Top Gun students and other squadrons, ships, or entire carrier groups. Shults left the US Navy with the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
After concluding her Navy career, Tammie Jo became a pilot for Southwest Airlines. Her incredible history and talent received wide acclaim on April 17, 2018, when she successfully landed a Southwest Boeing 737 after an engine exploded at high altitude, causing multiple system failures and rapid depressurization. The successful landing of Flight 1380 in Philadelphia saved 148 total lives, including passengers and crew. Her memoir is told in the National Best Seller book, Nerves of Steel.
Tammie Jo retired from commercial flying in 2020 and today is a sought-after speaker on leadership and overcoming adversity. She has inspired and motivated thousands of individuals to transform adversity into strength and strength into the courage to take action. She will be a part of the evening and speak briefly about education at The Victory Ball.
The Victory Ball is an evening of dinner, music, and dance in a re-created World War II era celebration. Co-hosted by the Henry B. Tippie National Aviation Education Center (NAEC), the event will feature live music by The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra, a cocktail reception, and a VIP meet and greet with Tammie Jo Shults.
